CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

CLASS FEE POLICIES:We will continue to offer as many classes for FREE at Bernina Four Corners, as possible. Occasionally, there will be a nominal fee for specialty classes or events. Our goal is to continuously provide the best educational environment, best customer service, and best product support in the Four Corners Region. The class fees are indicated in the following course descriptions, if applicable. We sincerely appreciate your patronage of Bernina Four Corners and respectfully ask that you continue to support our effort by purchasing all of your supplies and equipment at our store.

99 WAYS TO USE YOUR SEWING MACHINE

This new four-week course for beginners, offered by San Juan College Community Learning Center, will start on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 9 a.m., at Bernina Sewing Center of Four Corner. You must register at San Juan College, Community Learning Center, to enroll. You will learn how to use a sewing machine, how to do simple techniques for mending and updating garments, and how to make simple projects. You may rent a machine for $25 to use during the duration of the course. Supplies are at extra cost.  YOUTH SEWING CLASS meets every Wednesday,  after “early out” until 5 p.m.  This class is presently FULL, unless you have special permission from Sue, the instructor.  Since the classes are FREE, we respectfully request that all supplies be purchased at Bernina Four Corners.  Students must be at least 9 years old to enroll. 

BERNINA SOFTWARE V5.0 CLASSES are always taught on Mondays, by Sue, a super-knowledgeable Bernina-certified Software Instructor.   If you are a beginner, bring your laptop to the BASIC TUTORIALS sessions, beginning at 9:30 a.m.  The first lesson is each series is an overview of how to use a keyboard, software icons, and simple embroidery software techniques.  Once a month, you will bring your machine and module to participate in a hands-on stitch-out of an embroidery design.

After you have completed all of the tutorials to your satisfaction, you “graduate” to the afternoon V5.0 SOFTWARE CLUB sessions, which begins at 1 p.m.  In these classes, you will learn all of the techniques through a series of lessons on    editing, auto-digitizing, monogramming, appliqué, cross stitch, quilt program, photosnap, and multi-hooping.  You will use the tools included in the software:  alignment, mirror merge, wreath and kaleidoscope, blackwork run, for example.  Using your manual, QSS    lessons, and “Through the Needle” magazine articles, you will learn to trouble-shoot problems and share ideas.  This is an on-going series of classes in which you may join at any time.  You must be prepared to have a good time learning!

730E MASTERY SERIES begins Monday, October 6, at 10 am.  You will have in-depth lessons on the 730E and are advised not to miss any class, in order to successfully learn how to use this machine and embroidery module.   Owners of the  upgraded 200E’s are also encouraged to attend.   This series will be taught by Alberta. 

SERGER SAVVY is the month-long mastery class for new and current owners of all Bernina serger models.  The first session  is an in-depth lesson on needles and threads, threading the machine, and maintenance.  The following three sessions are  designed to provide you with hands-on experience in completing simple projects.  Sylvia is a very savvy Bernina-trained instructor.  The October series begins Tuesday, October 7, 9:30 am.  Be there!

FREE OPEN LAB—FINISH UFO’s begins Tuesday, October 7, at 1 pm.  You may work on your UnFinished Objects (hence, UFO’s), i.e., any unfinished projects you would like to finish before the Holidays, which seems like only a breath away!  Bring you fiends, form a group, have fun sharing your ideas, and help each other.  We welcome newcomers, as well.  Join us for a get-away afternoon each week this fall.  You’ll be glad you did! 

All Activa 210, 220, 230, & 240 and Aurora 430 & 440QE MASTERY CLASSES are scheduled on Wednesday mornings, 9 am—12 noon.  All Artista 630 MASTERY CLASSES are scheduled on Thursday morning, 9 am—12 noon for the month of October only. The first session is an in-depth training on needles & threads, operation of your machine, and care & maintenance. The next three sessions will be devoted to hands-on experience in completing projects which enable you to become comfortable in using your new Bernina. Projects vary.

You may learn to use your embroidery module attachment by enrolling in IT’S ALL ABOUT...ME, the Embroidery MASTERY CLASSES taught by Sharleen on Wednesday afternoons, at 1-4 pm.  You will learn in-depth embroidery techniques, including hooping techniques, on-screen editing, combining designs, and simple lettering.  These classes will help you become comfortable in creating embroidery designs using the built-in editing capabilities of your Bernina machine.  Sharleen is an experienced Bernina-trained instructor.  She also teaches the 101 SEW LAB on Thursday afternoons, 1-4 pm, in which you will make simple projects and learn beginning sewing techniques.  You will be amazed about how much you learn from Sharleen!

QUILTING WITH SYLVIA meets every Thursday and at least two Saturdays per month.  Beginning sessions start at 9a-12 noon; the afternoon sessions are an Open Lab.  The sessions are on-going, and you may join at any time.  You learn basic to advanced quilting techniques, depending upon the projects.  Sylvia, a master quilter, is meticulous about making sure you learn to complete your projects to the best of your ability.
